MISSIONCubeX SAL aims at making wastewater treatment more accessible by providing local, low-cost and low-tech solutions to rural and suburban areas as well as to refugee settlements. We aim at promoting the sustainable management of waste resources by turning bio-waste into a bio-resource and implementing resilient solutions anchored in the circular economy approach.
ABOUT US
CubeX SAL is a Lebanese social enterprise founded in 2018, specialized in resource-oriented bio-waste management. We design and deliver wastewater treatment solutions all while providing consultancy services and raising awareness on the importance of wise water usage. Our line of services covers but is not limited to households, municipalities, vulnerable communities, agro-industrialists and more.
Behind CubeX is a team of experts who hold extensive experience in consulting and engineering as well as managing environmental projects. Together, all the staff makes the core of the CubeX team which is vibrant, innovative and most importantly, has the passion and the willingness to create a positive impact.
KEYSTONE PROJECTS
CUBEX UNIT
A 3-stage household scale system that relies on biological treatment with the aim to reduce sludge accumulation, thus frequency of desludging. With an optional upgrade for treated water reuse in irrigation.
DECANTRA
Mobile dewatering system that addresses the frequent need of desludging of septic systems in rural areas and informal settlements by separating the solids from the water on-site and recovering the solids for reuse in agricultural activities.
DEWATS
Decentralized wastewater treatment solutions such as modified septic tanks, improved wetlands, reed beds, etc. that are adapted to rural and suburban areas as well as vulnerable communities.
AGRO-INDUSTRIAL
Sludge and wastewater treatment solutions for agro-industries.
IMPACT
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to improve the environment and lives of everyone.
With over 80% of the world’s sewage currently running untreated, the world is faced with a major environmental challenge that will impact the lives of everyone on this planet. In the case of Lebanon, 92% of sewage is untreated. The true problem lies in how wastewater has been traditionally addressed and how it has become a long-term economic and environmental burden. This has created the need to develop more sustainable practices for the management and efficient use and consumption of water resources, as well as the need to protect the environmental ecosystems where these resources are located. In addition to that, water is becoming scarce and more efforts are directed to not only protect water from the wastewater we generate, but also to reuse it.
CubeX SAL contributes to the above SDGs by
Diverting untreated wastewater from surface & ground water and open dumping; contributing to the following:
- Reducing mortality rate due to water borne diseases through exposure to unsafe water.
- Protecting water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes.
- Preventing and significantly reducing marine pollution.
- Improving water quality and increasing water reuse.
Promoting inclusivity by making wastewater treatment and sanitation accessible to all.
Supporting and strengthening the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management.
Building a strong network of supporting organizations to effectively transfer innovation to the region and adapt it to local conditions.
COMPETITIONS & GRANTS WON
a grant of 3000$ was secured to develop a Decantra lab-scale prototype that was tested on the field in the rural context to validate the dewatering process.
1st place prize winners of the 2020 RELX Environmental Challenge for DECANTRA. The competition awards innovative solutions that improve sustainable access to safe water and sanitation.
